Safaricom, the biggest telco in East Africa, has expanded its mobile money products with integration to Ant Financial. Under the terms of this deal, MPESA's 21 million users are now able to purchase goods from AliXpress, in Kenyan Shillings, through the mobile money platform. Mobile money accounted for 30% of the firm's revenue in the Half Year results released in November 2018. In that period, merchant payments rose by 49.9%, year on year. E-commerce within Kenya, and outside the country's borders has been a key focus for the company.
