A detailed look at the build quality issues with my mid-range Tesla Model 3 including exterior scratches, paint quality issues, panel gaps, and panel placement.

What quality issues did my Tesla Model 3 Mid-Range arrive with? It's been heavily reported that while Tesla has been ramping up the production quantity of Tesla Model 3's, the quality of the builds is not fully there. In this video we'll look at all of the various paint scratches on my Model 3, paint defects, and also the mismatching panel gaps on each side of the vehicle. As a control, we'll also look at the panel gaps on my Subaru Crosstrek (a vehicle that cost 1/2 the price), and see how the panel gaps compare to the Tesla at the exact same locations. All of the issues shown in this video are from how the car arrived at my house. I took delivery on November 29th, and the car went straight into my garage at 22 miles on the odometer for this video to be filmed. I had not yet driven the car before filming this video, except from taking it from the delivery truck and placing it into my garage, several hundred feet of travel. Are the flaws I show worth mentioning, or am I simply being petty? Feel free to let me know how you feel in the comments.

Lots of vernier caliper experts in the comments! "Jason, you don't know what you're doing away from a whiteboard!" While partially true, whiteboards are my safe space, I know how to use a caliper haha. The reason I'm not using the other end of the caliper (as demonstrated at 10:48, when measuring a glass gap) is because even though it's plastic, it'd be enough to scratch the paint if I wasn't super careful with it. Easier to hover over it, get it as close as possible (with my eyes, not the camera you're watching from), and not worry about scratching the areas I'm measuring. That cool? Get rid of it and buy another Subaru 😂🔥🔥🔥

Jason, you're a garbage person, I can't believe you complained about such petty things.

Feel better now? Just kidding, BTW. That paint really isn't great. Also, though, Fixes check isn't entirely right. Those scratches could just be filled with something like compound or whatever that makes them look like they are through the paint. Try cleaning them carefully and thoroughly with a gently car cleaner/polisher and see if it helps. You might need to wait a while if that really is paint that has just been sprayed, like 4-6 weeks. I wonder if those scratches were factory or delivery caused. At Tesla's prices, they could stand to wrap the car so it gets there pristine, just sayin'.

please do the paint thickness measurements across the car

I bought a Hyundai Getz new a few years ago (7) and cracked the shits when I took delivery and it had a single tiny hairline scratch on the back. The dealer apologized and had it repaired immediately. Why does Tesla get away with this?
Robnoxious77
you seem like a smart guy. Sooo why did you buy a crap car from a company thats going under, that’s well known for building cars that essentially cannot be maintained or repaired. Try getting a repair manual for it lol, let alone fix anything on it (and no, motors are not the only thing that fail on a car)

IT will Buff Out......

I was always taught that if a Car build is sloppy with fit and finish= Guess what their motor measurements will be??? NOT good... but what do you expect for 140,000$ dollar car???

I might have considered a Tesla for my car...were it not for the METEORIC high price tag it came with!  :-P
Formetoknow Not you
So you decided to make a video instead of complaining to Tesla? Everything that’s wrong with this world!!!!
Nick Brennan
Tesla don't have a traditional dealer network like other car makers so these cars leave the factory as is and get dropped at various brownfield sites before delivery. I would say that all Tesla cars made are not being inspected at the factory before leaving and because they don't have a dealer network these issues are not being caught by anyone except the owners! Poor show on Tesla for allowing this, especially considering how much these cars cost. I know they seem happy to fix these issues but the customer should Not be their quality control.

Absolutely No Way am I even considering buying a Tesla until they get this stuff sorted.

I think I'll get a Kia eNiro instead.

My 1987 Lincoln Continental was built way better and has 32 year old paint and has less scratches than this

Cant be any worse than GM Garbage Moters

Nice video, glad to know about those short comings in their manufacturing process. Glad they are going to fix it

What a POS car.

Tesla has a big issue with its quality control.

I lost my interest in Tesla after sitting in a Model S in the shop. The build quality was disgustingly cheap, and it was a major turn off. I recently rode a Model S in a Uber ride and boy that was one bumpy ride. The suspension system was obviously inferior. I think my first electric car will be the Porsche Taycan. The design is very sleek and Porsche is almost always high quality.

That's the WORST factory paint job I've ever seen on a car.

In China 4,400 people a DAY die young (10 years or more) from air pollution. Let that sink in when compared to paint damage. That number is NOT zero in the US. The study indicates that there are 200,000 people per year dying young from air pollution. So depending on your priorities you can pick you vehicle. I suggest we can do even better if we change both the vehicle and the infrastructure at the same time and travel three times faster.

The Difference Between Gasoline And Hydrogen Everything That's Wrong With 3 months ago   14:19

How hydrogen combustion engines work, versus gasoline engines. Hydrogen combustion engines can be more efficient and with better emissions versus gas engines, due to the fuel differences of H2.

This video will look at eight major differences between gasoline and hydrogen fuels used in internal combustion engines. This includes the combustion reaction and byproducts, air fuel ratio, ignition energy, flame velocity, auto-ignition temperature, diffusivity, quenching distance, and density. These properties result in drastic differences between using the two fuels, though both can easily be adopted and used in traditional otto-cycle piston cylinder engines, often with little modification to the existing engine hardware. Are hydrogen engines the future of internal combustion? Let's find out!
