A VOLUNTEER clean-up crew went to work on a shabby pair of landmark buildings at Morpeth, Northumberland.

The future is uncertain for the County Council-owned Willows and Beechfield properties in Gas House Lane.

A group of townspeople who fear the buildings face demolition turned out to clear overgrown trees, shrubs and weeds which have taken over the courtyard between the Victorian properties.

But a neighbour who also wants the buildings saved, says he is not confident about a happy ending to the story.

The County Council says plans for the site will be brought forward once a decision has been made on the future of the County Hall site at Morpeth.
